Radio 2000 Presenter
Ntombikayise Meso, 38, is an exceptional radio broadcaster who hosts a life-changing weekday programme called Better Together on Radio 2000. Through the carefully selected music she plays and the interviews she facilitates, she keeps listeners encouraged. One day a listener called the show pleading for help. His neighbours had lost all their belongings after their house had burnt down. Ntombi, her nickname, urged listeners who reside in and around the area to assist in whatever way they could. This led to a new house being built by a generous businessman. The children received new school uniforms and lives were restored. Meso made a decision very early in her career that she was going to use the microphone to uplift her listeners. “People go through a lot on a daily basis, and I wanted to create a safe space for three hours that would uplift them,” says Meso. Another heart-warming story is that of a 10-year-old she once interviewed, who ran a soup kitchen in Alexandra using her pocket money to buy ingredients. Following that interview, Knorr donated boxes of soup packets which helped support the young girl and her mother in their efforts to build their community.
