Mammila plotting to hurt Kaizer Chiefs ahead of league opener

Chippa United coach Morgan Mammila has once again made a bold statement, saying that he will make coach Molefi Ntseki’s start in the hot seat at Kaizer Chiefs hurtful.

The Chilli boys will open their 2023/24 DStv Premiership campaign when they make a short trip to Kwazulu-Natal to lock horns against new-look Amakhosi at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on August 6.

Mammila made a dramatic return to Chippa, merely three months after he was shown the door by club chairman Siviwe ‘Chippa’ Mpengesi. He replaced Lehlohonolo Seema, who helped the club survive relegation by the skin of their teeth after finishing number 14 in the log standings.

Speaking at the DStv Premiership season launch at Multichoice City in Randburg on Wednesday, the ambitious coach reminisced about his previous encounters against Chiefs, saying that he will once again find a way to walk away with maximum points against the Soweto giants.

“They [Chiefs] are a big team in Africa and we can’t run away from that fact,” Mammila said.

“But we played with them last season when I was head coach at Chippa, and we beat them 2-1, I then went to Swallows and we also won 2-1.

“For me, one thing we will have to keep in mind is that they are a different team – new sponsor [Kappa], new players and I just must go back and look where I can hurt them again.

“The bottom line is that Morgan Mammila two and Kaizer Chiefs zero, and we can’t run away from it.”

Chippa will go toe-to-toe against a Chiefs side that will be desperate to start their league campaign on a positive note, as they are on a mission to bring the glory days back at the club and the disgruntled Amakhosi fanbase.
